Chiropractic Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I am in an Auto accident?

If you have been injured in an automobile accident, it is extremely important to get a chiropractic exam as soon as possible. Even if the damage to the car is minimal, the force of the collision moves inside the car and into the occupants of the vehicle. There have been serious injuries to people in cars, even though the vehicle doesn’t seem to have been damaged much at all. By contacting us at Hershey Chiropractic as soon as possible, we can determine whether your injuries are serious or if you only need minimal care to return to normal. We work with other health care providers in case something like temporary pain medication or CT and MRI scans are necessary. At Hershey Chiropractic, we offer same day appointments, and we will take care of your insurance paperwork for you. We will work with your attorney to make sure you get the full amount of treatment you need without costing you anything out of pocket.

What is an “adjustment”?

The chiropractic adjustment is used to treat subluxations or misaligned vertebrae with the intention of restoring proper alignment, improved function and proper nerve system restoration. The chiropractor will place the patient in various positions on a chiropractic adjustment table that is specifically designed for this purpose. The chiropractor will use their hands to apply a gentle, specific motion to correct the subluxation or fixated vertebrae. There is often a popping sound that accompanies the adjustment and most often relief is felt as the joint is released, and motion is restored to the spinal vertebrae. A popping sound doesn’t have to occur for the adjustment to be a success.

What is a “popping” sound?

With an adjustment, an audible “pop” may be heard and felt. This noise is caused by the exchange of normal gases within the joint itself as pressure is released. When the joint capsule is freed from being locked up, the synovial (or joint fluid) in the joint can now lubricate your joints and give you much greater movement, usually with immediate relief and almost always without any pain.

Will the adjustment hurt?

When a fixated or subluxated joint is released through a chiropractic adjustment, there is almost always an immediate relief, as the joint is no longer locked up, pinching on your nerves. Once the nerve pressure is released, pain is usually relieved immediately. There may be some muscle soreness the following day as the newly freed joint can now allow you to exercise your muscles. No different than when you exercise after being non-active for some time. This soreness will go away within a day or two.

How long will it take to get me better?

Since everyone is different, how fast you heal will depend on several factors. This varies from your age to the degree and type of injury you have sustained. It also depends on your state of health when you come in for care. Some people with chronic health difficulties on average heal slower. A major factor in healing time is how well you take care of yourself during the healing process: What is your diet like, and do you get enough sleep, or do you exercise regularly? Do you drink enough water and avoid processed foods, tobacco and have limited alcohol use? One of the most important things you can do is maintain a positive attitude. Study after study has borne this fact out. Try to be happy. People that are happy are overall much healthier.

Is chiropractic treatment safe for children?

Your chiropractor is highly trained in adjusting people of all ages, including children. Adjustments or manipulation as they're sometimes referred to is the minor movement of vertebrae in the spine. This is adapted to the patient. Patients that are small children are treated much differently than adult patients. Very little pressure is required to get the desired effect of the adjustment, and children usually respond and heal very quickly with care.
This also occurs with treating the elderly or patients with conditions that call for different methods to adjust that involve very gentle methods that still work and are safe regarding their condition.

Do I Have to Keep Coming Back for Treatments?

You may have heard the notion that once you go to a chiropractor you have to keep going back forever.
Once your initial condition has been treated and stabilized, many people want to come back for periodic maintenance care to help prevent future problems and address problems while they are still minor. Prevention is the key to reducing recurrences of existing health conditions and minimizing new injuries in the future.
NAET Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is NAET?

NAET is a revolutionary way to help eliminate allergies for life. This method is a non-invasive, natural and a drug-free holistic treatment. NAET is safe for everyone from infants to the elderly. The treatment is based on principles of acupuncture and chiropractic, using gentle pressure on the spine. Over 12,000 licensed practitioners have been trained in NAET procedures and are practicing all over the world.

NAET treatments reprogram the nervous system to stop over-reacting to the offending allergen (or substance). Almost any substance can cause a sensitivity or allergy within the body. Once the treatment is accepted, the body heals itself and the treatments are usually permanent. However, some patients may need repeat treatments until an allergy is fully eliminated.
Basic essential nutrients are treated during the first few visits. Chemicals, environmental allergens, vaccinations, immunizations, etc. are treated after checking about fifteen basic essential nutrients. NAET can successfully alleviate adverse reactions to egg, milk, peanuts, penicillin, aspirin, mushrooms, shellfish, latex, grass, ragweed, flowers, perfume, animal dander, animal epithelial, make-up, chemicals, cigarette smoke, pathogens, heat, cold, and other environmental agents and foods.

Is N.A.E.T covered by insurance?

At this time, NAET is not covered by insurance. Health care savings accounts and Flex pay accounts can be used for the office visit here, for any services. Insurance just can’t be billed for NAET. Medicare only pays for chiropractic adjustments and not for NAET either.

Do I really need to avoid allergens for a 25-hour period after my treatment?

Following your NAET treatment, you need to do your best to avoid the allergen you have been treated for, for at least 25 hours. For outdoor allergies, we provide masks to help prevent exposure to dust, smoke and things like pollen, grass and tree allergens. For food allergens, you need to avoid anything containing that type of food, so be careful and read labels during the 25-hour period. Sometimes you can accidentally expose yourself and the treatment may still work.

If I complete the N.A.E.T treatments, will I be free of my allergies?

NAET has a great success rate at 80-90%, but it is unfortunately not 100%. There may be factors that keep you from a successful outcome, and we work hard to overcome whatever that may be. Some allergies, although rare, may return, but it is simple to re-treat the allergy and return to your healthy state again. If it works the first time, it almost always works again if the allergy returns. What may cause the allergy to return? Things like trauma from an accident, or a severe emotional upset may cause your allergy to return, as well as hormonal changes like puberty, pregnancy, or menopause. Usually your allergy will be corrected for life.

Do I Have to Keep Coming Back for NAET Treatments?

Most NAET treatments will correct your allergy for life. However, they can return, although usually with a lesser reaction than during your original visit. Some allergens like dairy might take more than one visit to correct, so it depends on what we find during your evaluation and treatment. We do not charge for you to come in for a “recheck” to see if your allergy has returned or if it is something new you are reacting to. We only charge for your treatments.
